The Clam Chair was created in 1944 in Copenhagen by Danish upholsterer Arnold Madsen.
In 1945, Arnold Madsen partnered with cabinetmaker Henry Schubell to establish Madsen & Schubell, creating the distinctive chair that came to be known in Danish as the Muslingstol (Clam Chair) for its signature shape. This new edition combines traditional joinery with modern techniques, delivering a piece of exceptional quality.

Arnold Madsen, a Danish upholsterer with no formal design training, became an influential figure in Scandinavian furniture design in the 1940s. In 1944, Madsen envisioned what would become the iconic Clam Chair, initially shaping it by hand in plaster to capture its organic, curving form. His partnership with skilled cabinetmaker Henry Schubell in 1945 led to the founding of Madsen & Schubell, a collaboration that brought innovative, hand-crafted designs like the Clam Chair to life.
With a background in fine furniture restoration, Dagmar ensure accurate, authentic recreations of classic Scandinavian Modern designs.
