The Clam Chair was conceived by Danish upholsterer Arnold Madsen in Copenhagen, 1944. Together with Henry Schubell, the chair was produced and sold to great success under their eponymous company, Madsen & Schubell.

The design remained in production until the 1960s before lying dormant for decades. In 2012, original Clam Chairs reupholstered in sheepskin started to appear on the high-end auction market, leading to incorrect accreditation and a subsequent movement by researchers and enthusiasts to identify the original designer and honour his legacy.

80 years after its inception and with Madsen family blessing, Dagmar acquired the rights to recreate this iconic design to ensure its legacy lives on for decades to come.
