Great Dane Furniture Care Instructions

Each piece is designed to stand the tests of time and in order to get longevity out of your chosen pieces we have put together a selection of care instructions to help guide you when caring at home and in the office.

Oiled wood

Oiled wood will develop a natural patina and character over time which will only enhance the beauty of the material. To maintain the look and feel of oiled wood, annual re-oiling is recommended. Oiling should be done when the wood starts to feel dry or appear faded.

To avoid accidental markings after oiling your pieces, be sure that surfaces are kept clear for 24 hours so the surface settles and dries appropriately.

Guardian Wood Oil is available from all Great Dane showrooms

Daily cleaning

  • For daily maintenance, wipe table with a clean dry cloth to remove dust and other unwanted particles.
  • If spots cannot be removed with a dry cloth, use a clean cloth soaked in clean water and wrung well. A small amount of detergent can remove stubborn marks, and be sure to dry off with a soft cloth.
  • Firmly wipe the surface in the direction of the grain.
  • Do not leave liquid to sit on timber surfaces. Always use coasters under cups and glasses, as well as vases to avoid markings from condensation.
  • Be wary of sun damage to furniture by cleaning, oiling, or rotating your pieces if possible.

Lacquered Timber

Lacquered finishes on timber are a clear coating that creates a layer of protection to the timber surface, yet still allowing the grain and feel of the timber to express itself beautifully. Although lacquer does create a layer of protection, it can be penetrated with liquids or scratches. Re-lacquering by a professional is usually advised after around 10 years, varying on the level of use and patina.

Leather

Alongside perhaps only timber, no material gives us as much joy here at Great Dane as leather. The patina, the texture, the smell – all of these contribute to the rich character developed by a good quality leather, which, over time, allows a piece of furniture to develop into something as unique as its owner. With this in mind, Great Dane is pleased to now offer a selection of its furniture in premium pure aniline vegetable tanned leather Tärnsjö Garveri leathers.

This leather is known for its unique markings and for its beautiful patina that will develop over time and is particularly sensitive to its environment, especially sunlight. To maintain this high-quality leather, we recommend thoroughly cleaning and conditioning your piece every 6-12 months, depending on the level of use and its reaction to its environment.
