The aesthetic of vegetable tanned leather is unparalleled and is subject to a natural ageing process. Just like good wine, it matures and gains its own unique character over time. Great Dane works exclusively with Tärnsjö Garveri, one of only about 5% of tanneries around the world still employing the vegetable tanning technique in favour of the more time and cost-efficient chrome excel method. The tanning process uses bark extracts, water and water-based finishing, and this is one of the reasons why there are a limited range of finished colours that the end consumer has to choose from. That sort of integrity to the process is so hard to come by these days, and with proper care and maintenance, your vegetable tanned leather will age naturally, develop a beautiful patina and last for generations.
