Born in Denmark, Vodder studied in Copenhagen under his friend and mentor the legendary Danish designer, Finn Juhl. The pair later worked together as they went on to establish themselves as the pre-eminent Scandinavian designers of the mid-century period. During the 1950s and ’70s, Vodder’s furniture designs were used by President Jimmy Carter in the White House and President Anwar Sadat in Cairo. His work was also exhibited widely, both individually and in group exhibitions with the likes of Verner Panton and Nanna Ditzel.

Before Vodder’s passing in 2009, Great Dane’s founder Anton Assaad became close friends with Vodder learning directly from the master about his techniques, approach to design and perhaps most importantly the production of his pieces. To this day Snedkergaarden continues Vodder’s legacy by crafting his iconic collection, available exclusively in Australia at Great Dane.

When asked what makes good design..."It is important to me that the design is nice or beautiful to look at – with curves and organic forms..."
