Designed in 1947 by J.T. Kalmar and A. Poll, this freestanding floor lamp exemplifies manufacturer Wiener Werkbund’s criteria of handcrafted timeless design.
Melding form with function, the sabre-shaped stand is threaded through the lampshade, allowing the shade to be hung at three different heights, making it an ideal reading lamp. The hardwood stand and handle can be left natural with a protective oil or wax coating. All metal parts are finished in black bronze or polished brass, while the base reflects the lightness of the floor lamp as a whole.
After the turn of the century, Julius Theodor Kalmar, son of the original founder, studied under the renowned Austrian architect and designer Josef Hoffmann at the Vienna School of Applied Arts and at the Birmingham School of Art and Design.
