Poul Cadovius 1948

In 1948, the legendary Danish designer and manufacturer Poul Cadovius created one of the world’s first wall hung furniture systems.

At the time, the idea that furniture should not use floor space was innovative. ROYAL SYSTEM® consists of wall-mounted wooden rails, shelves with hangers in brass or stainless steel and various modules such as cabinets, drawers and desks, which can be customised in multiple individual combinations. Thanks to its modern appearance, light styling and combination of possibilities, it suits both residential and commercial interior design and each shelf can hold up to 30kg. It is available in walnut or oak veneer; surface treatments are oiled, lacquered, soap or white oil, and the graceful side hangers are available in either stainless steel or brass.

Poul Cadovius was born in Copenhagen in 1911 and was originally trained as a saddler and upholsterer. He was a colourful and successful designer with a marked influence on the Danish furniture industry and furniture design – both in his own time and later.
