PP225 Flag Halyard Chair

Hans J. Wegner 1950

The ultimate in luxurious relaxation.

Two hundred forty metres of specially developed flag line the solid steel frame forming the seat and back, softened by a longhaired sheepskin. The idea came to Wegner on a summer afternoon while the children were playing in the shallow waters along the beach; Wegner was digging himself into the sand, building a comfortable chair to enjoy the holidays.

Wegner made the first sketches in his summerhouse using the seating angles he had conceived on the beach. Despite executing much of his work in wood, Wegner proves that he masters stainless steel with the same conclusive elegance. The Flag Halyard Chair is a tribute to early modernists such as Le Corbusier, Mies van der Rohe and Marcel Breuer.
