Known for his furniture, glass and industrial design, Björn Trädgårdh was an important figure in Swedish functionalism, with a practical approach to design that was often softened by simple, organic forms.
Born in Sweden in 1908, Trädgårdh worked across a range of disciplines and became closely associated with Svenskt Tenn in the late 1920s, where he designed everything from furniture and lighting to pewter objects. Among his best-known pewter pieces is the Brännvinsfisk, or Schnapps Fish, based on an earlier model by a visionary Estrid Ericson.
In 1937, Trädgårdh made a 10-day visit to Reijmyre Glasbruk around Midsommar, where he developed approximately 50 glass models directly at the glassworks, without any sketches. Among them was the beautiful T66 Bowl, now sold at Great Dane.
