Best known for his seating furniture design, Wikkelsø’s aesthetic is considered quintessentially Scandinavian, drawing inspiration from natural, organic form and translating it into furniture that closely embraces the human figure while remaining steadfast and durable. Born in Denmark in 1919, he studied at the School of Arts and Crafts and the Academy of Art Cabinet Design School in Copenhagen, going on to produce celebrated work that is characterized by its sharp contours, low-slung structure, and bold solid-color upholstery.

“A chair is for lying, not just sitting. It should be comfortable no matter what angle you sit.”
